The camp of the Obidient Movement on Friday denied reports that its governorship flag bearer Olumide Akpata, has stepped down for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Asue Ighodalo in the election taking place on Saturday in Edo State.

The rebuttal was forwarded to our correspondent by the Interim National Coordinator of the movement, Tanko Yunusa, via a WhatsApp message on Friday.

Yunusa debunked the speculation that the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association has withdrawn from the governorship race.

The former presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party was reacting to a viral letter circulating on social media on the eve of the election.

The purported letter indicated that Akpata has officially agreed to step down and back Governor Godwin Obaseki’s political godson, Ighodalo.

But Yunusa described the letter as a fake document with fictitious dates designed to steal people’s votes.

He said, “They are used to stealing the people’s votes. The letter was unintelligently written. The letter was written on the 20th of September and signed on the 29th of July.

“Every day is for the thief, one day for the owner of the house.”
