The Adamawa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the recently concluded Edo state governorship election is daylight robbery.
The party insisted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) violently manipulated the result of the election.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Adamawa State Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Ahmed Shehu, along with other state party executives, urged the party to be quick in seeking a legal redress.
During the briefing, Shehu asserted that the state chapter fully supports the stance of the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the PDP governors.
The party chairman said the party stands by the results presented by the chairman of the Edo PDP National Campaign Council, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri which indicated that the Edo PDP candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo got the highest votes.
He said, “We abhor the desperation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which employed all lethal means, including violent manipulation to subvert the wishes of the generality of Edo people.”
He added that the “daylight political robbery by the APC” is a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and may in particular worsen growing political apathy.
“We wish to state that we are solidly behind our national party leadership taking any legal measure to ensure that the stolen mandate in Edo State is retrieved,” he added.
On the fate of the PDP national chairman, the Adamawa PDP expressed the opinion that Umar Damagum should be allowed to serve out the tenure of the chairman that he took over from.
