The Edo State Joint Transition Committee, comprising representatives from the state government and the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s team, has pledged to work harmoniously to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting, held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy on Friday, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, emphasised that the committee’s primary objective is to facilitate a seamless handover of government.

He said, “The primary objective of the Transition Committee is to ensure a smooth handover of government. We anticipate the collaborative efforts of all members in achieving a seamless transition.”

The committee’s chairman, and Secretary to the State Government, Joseph Eboigbe, briefed the committee on the transition programme and assured them of the government’s readiness to ensure a smooth process for the incoming administration.

In his remarks, the chairman of Okpebholo’s team and former deputy governor of the state, Pius Odubu, expressed satisfaction that the state government had commenced the process of ensuring a seamless transition.

Odubu urged the government’s team to work diligently to provide all necessary documents and details, enabling the incoming administration to begin its work effectively.

He further cautioned against withholding information, stating, “Let us not attempt to hide any information, so the incoming government will be fully briefed.”

The handover ceremony is scheduled for 12 November 2024, in Benin, the state capital.
