Edu claims Arsenal have already identified their summer transfer targets following calls from supporters to sign a new striker.

Mikel Arteta’s side have faced criticism at times this season over their lack of a focal point in the side, although since the start of the year they’ve scored 21 goals in just five Premier League games.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Ivan Toney in the January transfer window, however, Brentford’s £80 million asking price was high enough to put off interested clubs.

In the wake of their 1-0 defeat to Porto in the Champions League this week, former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott urged the club to make a move for Toney at the end of the season.

But Edu insists he does not share the same concerns as some Arsenal supporters who are urging the club to bring in a new No.9 this summer.

When asked by Rio Ferdinand if he is thinking about signing a new striker for Arsenal this summer, Edu told TNT Sports: ‘I understand what the fans are asking for but we have already our ideas, our targets.

‘We plan a lot ahead of what we’re going to face.

‘I would be worried if we’re not scoring a lot of goals, if we’re not creating chances, which is the opposite, I think we’re creating a lot, we’re scoring a lot of goals.

‘The plan is to every year to try to get better, I think we’re in a good moment and let’s see if we can keep improving.’

Edu also added: ‘To be fair, there’s a lot going on at the moment.

‘My role, I have to look after not only the first-team, also look after the women, the academy as well.

‘Of course, now we’re starting to plan ahead of the summer on the recruitments, yeah, a lot of things are happening and we’re really enjoying.’
