The Ivorian's contract is believed to be worth in excess of £40,000-a-week.

His current deal had been due to expire in the summer of 2027, with the option of a further year.

Boro signed Latte Lath from Atalanta before the start of last season in a deal worth around £5.5million.

The 26-year-old has since scored 29 goals in 67 appearances for the club.

Of those strikes, 11 have been in the league this season, three more than Boro's next highest scorer.

Latte Lath departs with Michael Carrick's side sixth in the Championship.

Boro are two points clear of Blackburn following their defeat to Preston on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Atlanta finished last season ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference.

They went on to reach the semi-finals of the play-offs after beating Montreal and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.

Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has since been appointed as manager ahead of the new campaign.

Both players could make their first appearances on Saturday, with Atlanta facing Birmingham Legion in a friendly.

The Five Stripes begin their MLS campaign at home to Montreal on February 23.
