Egbetokun mourns Akwa Ibom CP, Ayilara

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed his profound sorrow following the deaths of two esteemed senior police officers, Retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police Philip Maku and Commissioner of Police, Abdulwaheed Ayilara.

Egbetokun described their deaths as a great loss to both their families and the Nigeria Police Force.

His condolence message was contained in a statement by the force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursady.

Egbetokun emphasised the valuable contributions of both officers throughout their careers.

He stated, “The dedication of both senior police officers to service and integrity can never be forgotten. Their passing is a great loss, not only to their families but to the entire Nigeria Police Force.

“Their loss has left an indelible mark on all who knew them and every single life that they have impacted in the course of their respective careers.

“On behalf of the entire officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP extends his sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of late Rtd. AIG Philip Sule Maku, fwc, and CP Abdulwaheed Ayilara, praying for solace during this difficult time. May their souls rest in peace.,” the IGP stated.

Maku, who served as the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi and Ebonyi states before concluding his career as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Force Headquarters and retired on December 12, 2021, died on August 23, 2024.

On his part, Ayilara held various positions during his career, including serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigations Department in Lagos State.

His final role was as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Akwa Ibom State before he died on Wednesday following a brief illness at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
