Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud celebrations to offer more prayers for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
In a statement on Sunday, Makinde emphasised the importance of spiritual reflection during this period, urging the Muslim faithful to pray for Nigeria’s overall well-being and the continued progress of the country.
“As we celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), I encourage everyone to reflect on his teachings and to pray for our nation’s wellbeing, peace, and development,” the governor said.
Makinde also called for tolerance and understanding among all Nigerians, noting that unity and collective efforts are essential for overcoming the challenges the country currently faces.
According to him, the Mawlid, always celebrated on the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic Calendar, to mark the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), is an important festival for all Muslims and should be used as another avenue to seek the face of Allah over the state of affairs in the country.
He said: “I congratulate all Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-el-Mawlid 2024. The Mawlid has always been an important festival for the Muslim Ummah; a great opportunity for them to glorify Allah and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
“While felicitating my Muslim brothers and sisters, I want to charge them to use the opportunity to pray more for our state and our nation.
“As an administration, we have enjoyed the support and prayers of the Muslim Ummah in the last five years. But just as efforts cannot be too much, prayers cannot be too much. So, please pray more for things to turn around for the better in our nation.
“On our part, we will continue to implement policies and programmes that will guarantee the well-being of the people and their freedom to practise their religions without inhibition or disturbance.
“Happy EEid-el-Mawlid”
