The Igede Ekiti community in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State has canvassed the support of its sons and daughters in an effort to enhance infrastructural growth in the town.
The Chairman of the Igede Ekiti Day Celebration Planning Committee, Dr Sunday Oluyemi, said the community was planning to launch a N500m development fund during the 2024 Igede Day celebration, to seek support to achieve its goal for the growth of the town.
Olayemi, who spoke at a press conference heralding the Igede Ekiti Day celebration billed for Saturday, October 26, 2024, said, “The money realised would be channelled towards execution of various projects and programmes that will have positive impacts on the lives of the people of the ancient community.
“We are seeking the support from eminent sons and daughters of the community and well-meaning Nigerians to raise N500m for infrastructural development and socio-economic growth of Igede-Ekiti.”
Speaking of the celebration, he said, “This year’s Igede Day will bring all Igede sons and daughters together. We share things and through that, we can know our basic needs in terms of assisting our younger ones and bringing us together.
“Igede Day strengthens our unity. The four quarters in Igede Ekiti will meet to share things. Since 1989, we have been having Igede Ekiti Day and through that, we have achieved a lot,” he added.
He said the celebration would be chaired by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, while the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, would be the special guest of honour, among other dignitaries.
The chairman said that some prominent Igede-Ekiti indigenes would be conferred with honorary chieftaincy titles on the occasion for their immense contribution to the development of the community.
