El Phantasmo was sidelined for a number of weeks, but he made his return just days before NJPW Wrestle Kingdon 19.
Phantasmo previously announced in October that doctors had found a small tumor, so he would be taking time away from NJPW. There had been no word on when he would return to the ring.
El Phantasmo returned at NJPW’s Road to Tokyo Dome event on December 22. He revealed that he had been medically cleared to compete. Phantasmo announced that his first match back would be on December 23. He also set his sights on Ren Narita’s NJPW World TV Championship. Phantasmo noted that he intended to compete at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19. There, Narita will defend the gold against Jeff Cobb and Ryohei Oiwa.
