Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general election, has said the media engagement of his opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has exposed the falsehood with which Ghana has been governed since 2017.

In the view of the NDC leader, the engagement by the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party a day after the NDC launched its manifesto was intended to water down the acceptability of the document.

“When you do something with devious intention it backfires on you. If people who are smooth talkers start stammering, then you should know they are lying.

“Dr Bawumia rattles but suddenly during a media encounter he’s stammering and you can’t get the head and tail of what he was saying. It is because he was peddling falsehood about the health of the economy,” he said to loud cheers at Ada on Tuesday on day one of his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region.

According to the NDC leader, Dr Bawumia lacks the basic principle of leadership – truthfulness and honesty – and should be rejected on December 7, 2024.

“If you want to be a good leader, you must be honest to your people and the NDC will always be truthful to you,” he said.

“The unfortunate thing about this NPP administration is that they do not even know that the Ghanaian economy is sick. It is when you know that the economy is in crisis that you can come out with strategies to get the economy out,” he stated.

The NDC, the former president said has a detailed plan to reset Ghana and move it from the economic quagmire onto the path of progress.

“We are going to reset our economy, our governance because when you are on your computer and it freezes, you reset it. Ghana’s economy, governance and attitudes are frozen,” he said.

To him, the December 7 election is about the future of Ghana and the difference between the NDC and the NPP is clear as the current government has destroyed the economy.

“This administration has sent our country 10 years back as we can’t pay our debt and we are begging the world to forgive us our debt. We have given hair cuts to bond holders and the cedi falling on daily basis,” he noted.

These indicators, amongst others, the former president said sets the stage for a rejection of the NPP at the polls.
