The Girondins de Bordeaux player was operated on during the night from Saturday to Sunday after severe head trauma during the match against Guingamp (26th day).

Sunday morning, Alberth Elis was in the recovery room at Bordeaux University Hospital. The Girondins player had undergone successful surgery the previous night, several media reported (France Blue Gironde, The Team, RMC Sport…), following a serious head trauma which occurred during a collision at the very beginning of the match Bordeaux-Guingamp (1-0) counting for the 26th day of Ligue 2. The right winger had been placed in an artificial coma before undergoing the operation.

There is serious concern around the 28-year-old Honduran international (64 caps – 13 goals) who must undergo examinations to determine possible after-effects. France Blue Gironde wrote on Sunday that it was necessary to wait for the hematoma to diminish to have a first clear imaging and to know the possible neurological consequences. The player’s relatives, Admar Lopes and Gérard Lopez, respectively sporting director and president of the Bordeaux club, had taken turns at his bedside since Saturday evening.

Mbappé’s message

“I think he hits the ball first, I hit him. For a second, I was also in a daze. He lost consciousness. I hope he gets better”explained, cited by The TeamDonatien Gomis, the Guingamp defender who collided with Alberth Elis after only 34 seconds of play this Saturday evening on the Matmut Atlantique lawn.

There have been numerous reactions since. Kylian Mbappé, the captain of the French team and star striker of PSG, posted a story on Instagram on Sunday morning: “ All my positive thoughts go to you Alberth Elis. »
