Grok 2 version will integrate real-time information from the X platform while applying text and vision understanding to complex user prompts.

Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has recently upgraded to the beta version of Grok-2, a new artificial intelligence tool designed by xAI with capabilities of chat, coding, and reasoning. On Tuesday, August 13, Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI introduced the successor to the older generation of its artificial intelligence model Grok-1.5 for X. The beta release of Grok-2 features two language models: Grok-2 and its lesser capable “sibling” Grok-2 mini.

Have been post-training Grok2 for a while and am excited to share that it’s officially out!!

The Grok-2 AI search assistant is available to X users with for users with Premium and Premium+ memberships. However, it is still not available to users with standard memberships.

The newly introduced Grok 2 version will integrate real-time information from the X platform and further apply vision and text understanding to complex user prompts. On the other hand, the Grok-2 mini features fewer capabilities but focuses more on speed.

When Grok was first released in November 2023, Elon Musk claimed that Grok 1 outperformed the initial version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in several academic tests. Grok-1.5 was later announced on April 12. While continuing on the growth of the previous models, the Grok-2 beta version gains notable recognition in the Chatbot Arena, a platform that effectively analyzes LLMs developed by the Large Model Systems Organization (LMSYS Org).

xAI on the Path to Catch Up With Gemini and ChatGPT

Per the latest report from LMSYS Org, xAI’s Grok-2 model is now capable of competing with OpenAI’s GPT-4o with the two platforms having almost similar capabilities. “With over 12,000 community votes, sus-column-r has secured the #3 spot on the overall leaderboard, even matching GPT-4o! It excels in Coding (#2), Hard Prompts (#4), and Math (#2),” they noted.

On the other hand, OpenAI’s GPT-4o still holds the top spot among other AI assistants with overall capabilities. Google’s Gemini 1.5 comes next, introduced earlier this year in February.

xAI plans to release Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini to developers via an enterprise API by the end of August. On May 27, the company announced a $6 billion Series B funding round, boosting its valuation to $24 billion in just 11 months.
