Elon Musk again is denying that he was donating tens of millions of dollars a month to Donald Trump, calling it a “fiction.”

“At no point did I say I was donating $45 million a month to Trump. That was a fiction made up by The Wall Street Journal,” he told ABC News on a visit to Capitol Hill today.

The Journal reported on July 16 that Musk had said that he planned to donate the $45-million-a-month sum to America PAC in support of Trump’s run. The Journal has stood by the story despite Musk’s earlier denials. It also should be noted that there is a difference between donating to the super PAC, which is an independent expenditure group that can collect unlimited contributions, and directly to the Trump campaign, which is subject to limits.

Musk’s latest denial comes after he gave an interview to psychologist and author Jordan Peterson in which he said, “I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump.” He said that the America PAC “is not meant to be a hyper partisan PAC.”

The America PAC, though, already has spent millions supporting Donald Trump and opposing Joe Biden, when he was in the race, according to records from the Federal Election Commission. Some of its contributors include prominent tech entrepreneurs, including Tylor and Cameron Winklevoss.

Musk endorsed Trump on July 13, in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on his life. Earlier this week, Trump actually boasted about Musk giving him $45 million a month, apparently relying on The Wall Street Journal account.
