Manchester United are certainly in the firing line of being mocked for their dismal start to the campaign, and they have nobody to blame but themselves.

On Monday, a cheeky marketing campaign from Domino’s went viral after they placed an advertisement outside Old Trafford. It read: “We’re hiring (not you, Erik).”

Ironically, owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer had met at the stadium yesterday to hold talks with the United fans’ board, while Ratcliffe and his INEOS hierarchy will also hold talks in London today to discuss Ten Hag’s future.

Sunday’s goalless draw at Villa Park has United entering the international break in 14th place. They have claimed only eight points from the 21 available in the opening seven matches, breaking last season’s record of their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.

United teased by struggling Bundesliga side

German outfit FC Augsburg, who sit 13th-placed in the Bundesliga rankings, took to X/Twitter after matchweek seven to fire a dig the Red Devils’ way, writing: “RT if your club is higher in the table than Man United.”

It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will still be at the reins when league action resumes on October 19. If INEOS have any sense or desire for a positive remainder of the campaign, he won’t be.
