The embattled 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has written to the Kano Police Commissioner, requesting special security arrangements.

The request came ahead of the upcoming Sallah festivities in the state that has been plagued by emirate crisis in the last weeks.

This request was detailed in a letter, reference number Ref: HRH/ADM/06/1/217, dated June 10, 2024, and signed by the Emir’s Private Secretary.

The Emir has invited all district heads and traditional leaders to begin preparations for the Sallah celebrations.

The letter stated, “I am directed by His Highness, The Emir of Kano, Alh Aminu Ado Bayero CFR, CNOL, JP; referencing case number FHC/KN/CS/182/2004 where the court ordered the maintenance of the status quo. I convey his appreciation and sincere gratitude for your contributions to peace and stability in Kano State during the Emirate Crisis. His Highness and the people of Kano are deeply grateful.

“His Highness also instructed me to request special security arrangements for the Sallah festivities (Eid-El Kabir) in Kano, which will commence on Sunday, May 16, 2024, and conclude on Thursday, May 20, 2024. All activities will originate from Nassarawa Mini Palace in Kano.

“These festivities are significant cultural and religious events that draw many participants and spectators from within and outside Kano. To ensure peace, order, and security during these celebrations, we kindly request the support and assistance of your esteemed agency for the successful execution of the events.”

The letter outlined the daily activities starting with Eid prayer at Kofar Mata Prayer ground on Sunday, May 16, 2024. Other activities include Hawan Daushe on Monday, May 17, 2024, at 4:00 pm, Hawan Nassarawa on Tuesday, May 18, 2024, from 8:00 am, and Hawan Zagayen gari on Thursday, May 20, 2024, from 8:00 am.

This request follows a prolonged dispute that has divided the emirate, stemming from Bayero’s dethronement by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who reinstated the 14th Kano Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi. The Governor signed a new Kano emirate council law, passed by the state Assembly, which dissolved the five emirates created under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
