Emile Hirsch is set to star in supernatural thriller The Condemnation from writer-director Catherine Pirotta. Luminosity Pictures is launching sales on the title, which will begin production in April, at the upcoming European Film Market.

The story follows an aspiring journalist (Hirsch) who’s given an investigative assignment by a prestigious newspaper to travel to Peru and write a story about Casa Matusita, one of the world’s most famous haunted houses.

Notorious for ghost sightings, murders, suicides and an infamous massacre, the house becomes a temporary home for the journalist and his wife. But as the couple settle in, strange and terrifying events unfold which lead them to seek the help of a local priest who has a dark history with the house.

Luminosity President Daniel Diamond produces with Brad Epstein and Farouk Hadef.

Peruvian-American filmmaker Pirotta writes and directs. Her previous feature El Plebeyo will be released theatrically later this year. She has received several awards for her filmmaking including nods from Tribeca, Women In Film, and ABC Network.

“Elevated genre movies that are not only very scary but also character driven and based on phenomenal actual events are always appealing to a broad worldwide audience,” said Diamond.

Pirotta added: “Emile Hirsch is one of the most talented and engaging actors of his generation. His body of work includes wonderfully diverse and complicated characters which he has portrayed in transformative ways, and I am excited to be working with him to bring this story to life.”

Hirsch is best known for starring in features Into The WildSpeed RacerLone Survivor and Oscar nominated films Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Milk
