Emmanuel Petit has told Chelsea to abandon their interest in Victor Osimhen and Alexander Isak on account of Nicolas Jackson’s goalscoring form.

The Blues are widely expected to sign a new centre forward this summer as their search for a reliable No,9 continues.

Napoli talisman Osimhen has long-been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and has, himself, fueled speculation on several occasions.

Newcastle’s current financial situation a battle to comply with spending regulations, meanwhile, means they could well be forced to sell one of their prize assets during the close season.

Isak, whose recent form has seen him nominated for the PFA Player of the Year, is likely to be high on the wish lists of several Premier League clubs.

Petit, however, is confident Chelsea already possess a player capable of scoring 30 goals next season if Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to keep faith with the Senegal international.

‘Individually, several players have improved for Chelsea in recent games and Jackson is one of them,’ the former Chelsea midfielder told Grosvenor Sport.

‘‌More players need to improve, though, and then he will get even better. I’m confident he will score more goals when they get better collectively and so far he’s had a good first season.

‌’If they keep Pochettino he will only get better. I’m confident he can score 30 goals next season.’

He added: ‘Chelsea do not need Osimhen or Isak. We all know about the No.9 curse at Chelsea and in the last couple of months, we’ve seen what Jackson can do.

‘‌There’s no need to put more pressure on him by signing someone like Isak on his back. You need competition in every position, but when you have someone like Jackson starting to emerge, don’t put pressure on him and let him explode.

‌’For me, if I’m Chelsea, I;’m not buying Isak as Jackson is already beginning to flourish.’

The frustration amongst Chelsea fans with Jackson began to boil over after he missed several gilt-edged chances in the recent FA Cup semi-final defeat against Manchester City.

With three goals in his last two games and 16 overall in what is his firs season in English football, Pochettino appears more than happy with his progress.
