Emmy Awards: ‘Hacks’ Wins Comedy Series Prize As ‘The Bear’, ‘Shōgun’ & ‘Baby Reindeer’ Lead Field – Full List

Refresh for latest: Hacks was the surprise winner for Outstanding Comedy series at the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards tonight, its third triumph of the night.

But it was It’s was a record-breaking Bear market tonight. FX‘s The Bear won five trophies including Outstanding Comedy Series, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy. The cable net’s Shōgun won Outstanding Drama Series and three other trophies tonight See the full list below.

The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White nabbed his second consecutive Emmy as Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the FX series, and the first award of the night went to Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who also scored a back-to-back Emmy as Supporting Actor. A little later, the show’s Liza Colón-Zayas won Supporting Actress on her first nom. Christopher Storer won again for directing The Bear, adding to last year’s wins for writing, directing and producing.

Including last weekend’s Creative Arts ceremonies, the series already has amassed 11 wins this year, breaking its own record for Comedy Emmys in a single year after banking 10 at the strike-delayed 75th anniversary show in January.

The Bear’s overall 2024 Emmys haul is second only to Shōgun‘s 17. The FX series’ Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won their first career Emmys as respective Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama series. Earlier Sundaym, Frederick E.O. Toye won Directing in a Drama Series.

Jodie Foster got her first career Emmy tonight, Lead Actress in a Limited Series for True Detective: Night Country, and Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd took the Lead Actor prize after winning for writing the Netflix limited series. Baby Reindeer won six total Emmys this year, after grabbing two at the Creative Arts Emmys.

It’s also a night for repeat winners, with Jean Smart winning her sixth career Emmy and third Lead Actress in a Comedy nod for her role as Deborah Vance in Max’s Hacks and HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver taking Scripted Variety Series. Emmy Elizabeth Debicki took her second Supporting Actress in a Drama Emmy for playing Princess Diana in the Netflix’s The Crown, and Billy Crudup also got his second Emmy as Supporting Actor in a Drama for Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show added to its Emmy haul with a statuette for Outstanding Talk Series, which was accepted by once-a-week host Jon Stewart. The team behind Hacks also scored its second Emmy for Comedy Series Writing. Will Smith took his third career Emmy, this one for writing Apple TV+’s Slow Horses. In accepting, he said onstage, “First of all, relax — despite my name, I come in peace.”

Peacock’s The Traitors then bucked the trend with its first Emmy, for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, as did Baby Reindeer Supporting Actress Jessica Gunning, on her first career nomination. Alex Edelman also was a first-time winner for HBO’s Alex Edelman: Just for Us, which took Writing for a Variety Special.

Another rookie Emmy winner was Steven Zaillian for directing the Netflix limited series Ripley. It was his seventh career nom.

FX leads all networks and platforms with nine wins each tonight, followed by Netflix with six. The combined HBO | Max is next with four, and Apple TV+ is other multiple winner, with two so far.

FX’s drama series Shōgun tops all programs with 25 nominations and already has 14 wins at last weekend’s dual Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies. The network’s The Bear was second with 23 noms and nabbed seven Creative Arts prizes.

This is the second Emmys of 2024; the 75th anniversary awards were presented in January 15, after being delayed due to the impact of the Hollywood strikes. Statuettes will be handed out in 25 categories, after 99 mostly below-the-line awards were presented during last weekend’s dual Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies. Uber-producer Greg Berlanti received the Television Academy’s 2024 Governors Award tonight. He has served as creator, writer and/or executive producer on nearly 50 TV shows since starting out as a staff writer on Dawson’s Creek. The head of Berlanti Productions owns the record for having the most shows on the air at one time with 20.

Grammy-nominated country star Jelly Roll sang his hit “I Am Not Okay’ during the In Memoriam segment. Jimmy Kimmel then took the stage for a special salute to Emmy winner Bob Newhart, who died in July at 94.
