Manchester United saw their early two-goal lead against FC Porto squandered in under 10 minutes, with the sides now tied at 2-2 as they prepare for the second half.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Rasmus Hojlund got off the mark for 2024/2025 just 13 minutes later. Diogo Costa should’ve done significantly better for both goals, so the Reds will be counting their lucky stars he’s been having an off-night.

Then, Porto were able to kickstart their comeback by halving the deficit through Pepe in the 27th minute, after which in-form summer recruit Samu Omorodion drew the tie level with a powerful header, completely brushing off Matthijs de Ligt with ease in the process.

Woeful United start to capitulate again

Manchester Evening News’ live update blog has certainly echoed the sentiments being shared by the Old Trafford faithful on social media; journalist Tyrone Marshall berated the ‘shambolic’ defending that allowed the hosts to get back into the game so easily, writing: “United are appointment viewing in Europe.

“This has been shambolic since they went 2-0 up, but then they had been under pressure even before that. The defence looks all over the place at the moment. Porto are targeting [Diogo] Dalot’s flank with every single attack, [Lisandro] Martinez is out of colour, and De Ligt looks shaken and out of confidence. Their character has once again been found wanting, and if they fold from here, it really will be end of days stuff.”
