Some youths wielding placards with different inscriptions stormed the popular Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday to mark the grand finale of the 10-day #EndBadGovernance protest in the state.

Inscriptions on the placards include messages such as “Release detained hunger protesters now, they are not criminals”; “FG, Delta Govts, Save Nigerians from insecurity, banditry”; and “Hunger insecurity must be addressed at all costs” among others.

The protesters were also singing solidarity songs to press home their demands from the government.

Stern-looking security operatives comprising policemen, officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and military personnel were strategically positioned to monitor the protesters to ensure that their mission was not hijacked by hoodlums.

Speaking with journalists, one of the leaders of the protesting groups, Sunny Omare, said they came out on Saturday, “To underscore the demands from the authorities to ensure good governance in the country.

“We decided to make a statement that our 10-day protest was not a joke.

“We are very serious about our demands from government and we are not handling it with levity.

“It is now incumbent on the government to look seriously into our demands which are anchored on how to make Nigeria great again.”
