Manchester United star Marcus has received a warning from Gareth Southgate that his conduct off the field is being observed in the lead-up to England’s Euro 2024 team announcement.

After skipping training the previous morning due to his sighting at a Belfast nightclub, Rashford was benched by United for their 4-2 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round. He had first claimed to be too sick to train.

United manager Erik ten Hag subsequently stated that Rashford, 26, had “accepted responsibility” for the incident. Rashford was quickly brought back into the starting lineup.

Southgate has since warned Rashford about his behavior, raising questions over the forward’s future in England’s lineup.

“We’re five weeks away from picking a squad, although so much happens to players over the period between November and March that we’re always sitting and observing everything on and off the pitch,” he said.

“Then in a few weeks’ time we’ll have decisions to make on the whole squad and there’s going to be a lot of attention on that because it’s the final squad before the Euros.”

The Three Lions boss said: “I haven’t spoken to many of our players at all since December. I’ve let them get on with their club football.

‘Generally they are back from their clubs and it’s not for me to interfere.”

Both the club and the supporters have criticised Rashford’s behavior off the field. The United attacker has been called upon to conduct himself in a professional manner going forward, despite the fact that he returned and scored immediately in his comeback game against Wolves.

Being a senior player of the team now, Rashford cannot behave like an irresponsible youngster. He should be setting an example for others to follow with his attitude.

The England international is crucial to United’s success in the second half of the season and his good form can provide United the platform to finish in the top four of the Premier League and achieve success in the FA Cup.
