All eyes on the England Euro 2024 squad.

Back on 21 May Gareth Southgate named a preliminary group of 33 players.

That group having to be eventually cut to a final 26 man squad and UEFA informed of the names by Friday 7 June at the latest.

That preliminary group of 33 players (see below) has now been slashed to 30, with four more to go.

Wednesday night brought the news that James Maddison had left the England group after having been informed by Gareth Southgate that he wasn’t going to Germany.

Now reported by The Telegraph and others, that Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Jarrell Quansah have also found out that they aren’t making the final cut.

This leaves four more to go.

I was always confident that both Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon would for sure have made the plane to Germany, even if squads had been restricted to 23 players as originally planned.

With squads increased to 26, then only injury could prevent the NUFC pair making the England Euro 2024 squad that will compete in Germany.

England have a final warm up match to go ahead of the tournament, playing Iceland at Wembley on Friday 7 June.

England are in Group C and will play Serbia on Sunday 16 June, before Slovenia on Thursday 20 June, then the final group game against Denmark on Tuesday 25 June.

The finals run in Germany from 14 June 2024 to the final on 14 July 2024.

Germany will kick off the group matches at the Allianz Arena on that opening day (14 June 2024) when they face Scotland.

The final will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on 14 July 2024.

As for who the final four to be dropped from the squad will be, not long to go now before we find out. My guess is that there will be more leaked info today, with Gareth Southgate informing others that they won’t make the final cut, then that info finding a way to go public.
