PSG fans at the Parc des Princes (and in front of their screens) are furious: the club’s management did not broadcast the usual Phil Collins sound for the players’ entrance before the match against Montpellier on Friday night. In reality, a technical glitch is at the origin of this controversy.
Three years after the first controversy, it’s a repeat performance. PSG management has decided to skip Phil Collins for the players’ entrance before the first match of the season at the Parc des Princes, Friday night against Montpellier. The brief appearance of
Who Said I Would (a live version by the singer-drummer of Genesis) has been launched before matches since the early 90s. A moment that has become essential at the Parc for the entrance of the red and blue players.
In reality, the PSG management has produced a new version of this sound sequence, in order to “to change the musical colour of the Parc des Princes”but “There is no question of permanently deleting Phil Collins’ song”as a communications manager explained to Sports.fr.
“We had a timing problem which didn’t help”she told us. After the technical bug of this first match, the Parisian public will therefore find this new version of Who Said I Would in September (against Brest).
In 2021, the Parisian leaders had already decided to turn their backs on this Phil Collins song by covering a track by DJ Snake made for the arrival of Lionel Messi. The world star producer – a big supporter of Paris Saint-Germain (he is from Val d’Oise) – was himself surprised by the club’s choice. The latter backtracked in the face of the supporters’ revolt.

The Parisian supporters (those who are not on vacation) were very excited for this first match of Luis Enrique’s team without Kylian Mbappé. Whistles came down from the stands after the players entered to demonstrate, from the outset, their discontent regarding the decision to no longer broadcast the sound of Phil Collins.
