Arsenal FC has confirmed the resignation of Edu Gaspar as Sporting Director in an official statement released on Monday evening, titled “Edu Gaspar Resigns as Sporting Director.”

The announcement follows earlier speculation reported by PUNCH Online and other outlets suggesting the Brazilian’s departure.

Edu, a celebrated member of Arsenal’s “Invincibles,” first returned to the club in July 2019 as Technical Director.

His dedication and strategic acumen led to his promotion to Sporting Director in November 2022, where he oversaw the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, creating a cohesive and ambitious football vision.

Reflecting on his decision, Edu shared the difficulty of leaving: “This was an incredibly hard decision to make.

“Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and to be part of something truly special in the club’s history.

“It has been a memorable journey, and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim, and Lord Harris for the support they have shown me.”

He highlighted the relationships he formed, adding, “I’ve loved working with so many great colleagues across our men’s, women’s, and academy teams, especially Mikel, who has become a close friend.

“Now it’s time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always have a place in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters nothing but the best.”

Arsenal’s Co-Chair, Josh Kroenke, expressed his gratitude and respect for Edu’s contributions, saying, “We respect Edu’s decision and thank him for his immense dedication in driving the club forward.

“Everyone at the club wishes him well. We are all fond of him and the positivity he brings to everything and everyone.”

He reassured supporters of the club’s commitment to its goals: “Change and evolution are part of our club. We remain focused on our strategy and on winning major trophies. Our succession plan will reflect this continued ambition.”

Edu’s departure marks the close of a pivotal chapter for Arsenal, defined by strategic leadership and a deep commitment to the club’s values. The Gunners now look ahead, aiming to build on the legacy left by their esteemed Sporting Director.
