Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has praised Spain and Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal and given him some valuable advice.

The former France international was impressed by the Spanish champions’ style of play at the last European Championship and also stressed that he had loved watching 17-year-old Lamine Yamal in action for La Roja.

Cantona sang the young winger’s praises while sharing some valuable advice to help Yamal grow as a footballer. Yamal has started all seven of Spain’s matches at Euro 2024, scoring one goal – the crucial equaliser against France in the semi-final – and providing four assists.

“Yamal? I love it.”

In an interview with The Athletic, the 58-year-old said: ” I admire Spain’s style of play and having a player like Yamal is a real pleasure because you never know what he’s going to do. He surprises everyone with his skills every time he steps on the pitch. His vision, technique and decision-making are excellent. I love that.”

He added : ” My advice is to love the game, have a passion for football and truly love the sport. The ball should be your friend, and having that special bond with it is truly magical. The ball is not your enemy. Unfortunately, that’s what many players think. When you watch Lamine Yamal play, you see that he treats the ball like a friend, maybe even a brother.

After the European Championship, the young striker is taking a well-deserved break and will therefore not accompany the Catalans on their trip to the United States where they will play three friendly matches.
