EXCLUSIVE: Eric Paquette’s Meridian Pictures is readying survival-thriller The Edge and has set Danish filmmaker Kasper Torsting to direct.

Written by Jordan Barber and produced by Aaron Barnett, Jessica Postigo, Eric Paquette, and The Exchange’s Brian O’Shea, the film will tell the story of a romantic escape that turns deadly when a bus plunges off a mountain road. Faced with a harrowing decision, a woman whose partner has been killed must save herself and a ten-year-old boy while battling unforgiving terrain, brutal weather, and the grief of losing her love.

The Exchange will handle worldwide sales and arrange financing.

A graduate of the National Danish Film School, Torsting is known for debut narrative feature In Love & War (2018), the war-drama which won both the Nordic Competition and the Audience Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. He also directed documentary Rocket Brothers, was a writer on acclaimed documentary Armadillo, and has made multiple music videos and commercials.

In Love & War is a fantastic film, and Kasper’s documentaries and commercials have a deep emotional complexity, making him the ideal director for this terrific script,” said Meridian’s Paquette. “Audiences respond strongly to high-concept films with well-rounded characters and a strong female lead, and we’re excited to cast this film.”

Meridian’s latest movie The Silent Hour, starring Joel Kinnaman and Mark Strong, is being released by Paramount’s Republic Pictures this month. The company is also in prep on Robert Lorenz’s Papa Alpha 333 and Jonathan Jakubovitz’s Cottonwood. Meridian Television is an executive producer on Ryan Murphy’s Dr. Odyssey.

The Exchange is currently in post-production on Tow, starring Rose Byrne, Octavia Spencer, Ariana DeBose, and Dominic Sessa, and is in production on horror-thriller Night Comes starring Dafne Keen, Samantha Lorraine, and Alexander Ludwig. The Exchange also represents worldwide sales rights on Sean Ellis’ The Cut which had its worldwide premiere at Toronto.

Jordan Barber is represented by UTA and Gotham Group. Kasper Torsting is with Ensemble Entertainment.
