Erik ten Hag has today confirmed that long-term absentee Anthony Martial has returned to training.
The Manchester United forward was ruled out of action in January after it was announced that he had undergone successful surgery on a groin complaint, with the club setting an expected return timeframe of around 10 weeks.
Martial’s last outing of the campaign came on December 9 during the Reds’ dismal 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. His unavailability led to the goalscoring burden falling almost entirely on young Rasmus Hojlund, who proved that he was more than able to step up to the task, and Marcus Rashford, although he always looks significantly more comfortable playing on the left flank.
Martial closing in on return to action
Now, it seems as though the Frenchman could make his long-awaited comeback in time for the run-in. He is ‘on schedule’ with his recovery, yet Ten Hag couldn’t give an exact estimate of which fixture he could return for.
Ten Hag confirms that Anthony Martial is back in training on schedule 10wks after groin surgery. Asked if Martial will play for Utd again, he said: ‘It depends on him. How quick is he back and what are the levels that he is showing.’ #mufc
