Manchester United decided to keep manager Erik ten Hag at the club this summer after an eighth place finish in the Premier League last season.

The Dutchman guided the Red Devils to success in the FA Cup by beating Manchester City, adding to his success in the Carabao Cup from last season.

Man United would feel they have made the right decision as the manager has reportedly convinced the club’s top transfer target to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been looking to sign a new striker to support Rasmus Hojlund following the departure of Anthony Martial this summer.

They have now agreed personal terms with Bologna attacker Joshua Zirkzeen with a deal close to getting completed, according to Corriere di Bologna.

Arsenal and AC Milan have been chasing the Bologna striker this summer as the Dutch attacker impressed last season and helped the Italian club to qualify for the Champions League.

The striker has a €40m (£33.9m) release clause in his contract with the Italian club and ten Hag has now convinced Man United to trigger that clause and make the striker their first signing under the INEOS era.

Joshua Zirkzee to Man United?

A striker and a defender is considered a priority at the club this summer as the Red Devils struggled on both ends of the pitch last season.

Man United scored just 57 goals in the Premier League last season and conceded 58 goals, ending up with a goal different of negative one.

They are now prepared to address those issues in the transfer market with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe ready to back the manager in making new signings.

Man United manager has convinced Joshua Zirkzee

Zirkzee was confused about joining Man United as he had doubts about his playing time at Old Trafford due to the presence of Hojlund at the club.

However, ten Hag has addressed those issues and won over the attacker by telling him he would be an important part of his plans at the club.

The striker was convinced once the Man United manager personally contacted the player and assured him of his role in the upcoming season.
