Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could be readying himself for a new career, but not in management.

After the Dutchman was sacked earlier in the season and replaced by Ruben Amorim, he has admitted that he enjoys working at his family real estate business.

In a podcast with SEG Stories, he admitted that there are 'so many things I could do' with his new-found freedom from the pressures of management.

"There are so many other things I could do. Maybe in football, in a new position as a manager. That’s an option. And maybe something completely different.

"I’ve been working with my brothers lately. We have our own company. Or rather: they have their own company.

"But we also run a company together with our father. That’s also something I love to do I can now give that more attention and it’s also a lot of fun" he said.

Ten Hag's family are one of the richest in the Netherlands, owning a successful real estate company.

Ten Hag's father Hennie established the company in 1967 and have since gone on to own several financial businesses too.

Ten Hag's brothers Michel and Rico have always been heavily involved in the business whilst he pursued football.

Following his sacking in October, Ten Hag and his team - including now Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy - received a pay out of over £10million.

It comes after former Man United star Raphael Varane revealed why he was exiled for two months under ten Hag.

In fact, from October until December 9, the four-time Champions League winner failed to register a single league start despite being fully fit.

Ten Hag originally explained his decision to keep Varane on the bench was down to 'tactical reasons'.

But in an interview with The Athletic, Varane has explained that was not the case.

"We had a robust discussion," Varane said. "We told each other some truths, but then I didn't play for almost two months.

"I said I didn't agree with certain ways of doing things regarding the relationship between him and the team.

"It wasn't something that I thought was good for the team because some of the players weren't at all satisfied. It was not good in terms of the relationship with the coach.

"He said, 'OK, I hear what you said' and after that I didn't play."

Varane eventually made his return to United's starting lineup on December 17 against Liverpool, helping the Red Devils keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw.

Ten Hag also admitted what he learnt during his time at Man United and coaching players.

"This generation, for example, generally has a hard time dealing with criticism. Criticism really affects them.

"The generation I grew up in had much thicker skin. You could be much more direct. If I did that with my players, it would demotivate them" he added.
