Following Manchester United’s 4-2 FA Cup victory, Erik ten Hag received recognition for his gesture towards Graham Coughlan, the manager of Newport County.

After overcoming a scare against Newport of League Two at Rodney Park on Sunday, United advanced to the FA Cup fifth round, where they will take on either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City.

Early in the first half, Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock before Kobbie Mainoo scored his first goal as a senior.

However, a deflected thunderbolt from Bryn Morris brought Newport back in the game and childhood United supporter Will Evans leveled the score to send the home fans into raptures.

United took control of the tie after that and Antony scored his first goal of the season before Rasmus Hojlund made sure there is no way back for Newport.

Ten Hag gave Coughlan a bottle of wine selected by Sir Alex Ferguson as a thank you for the League Two team’s performance following the FA Cup match.

Several UK stores are offering the Antinori Tignanello bottle for over £200, describing it as “one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region not to use white grapes.”

A happy Ten Hag shook hands with McLoughlan after completing his media obligations and remarked, “We have a small gift for you.”

Coughlan responded: “Brilliant. You know I don’t drink wine, I drink Budweiser.”

Ten Hag continued: “Really, Budweiser? American beer? But this is a really very good one chosen by Sir Alex [Ferguson] so maybe your wife will enjoy it.

“Maybe have a taste, I think you will like it. Well done for tonight.”
