Erik ten Hag talking after the match at Old Trafford.

Manchester United winning 3-2 against Newcastle United.

Newcastle the better team and creating more and better chances, but undone due to not taking enough of the great chances they created and defensive mistakes at the back.

The biggest moment though was when shortly after Man U had opened the scoring, Newcastle United should have had a penalty.

Yet another shocking decision going against Eddie Howe and his team, as a crystal clear spot-kick was denied, when VAR somehow didn’t see, or ignored, Amrabat clearly raking his studs down the back of Anthony Gordon’s achilles, inside the penalty area.

Incredibly though, Erik ten Hag having the shameless nerve to claim that it was Man U who had a massive poor decision go against them and that supposedly proof of what has tended to go against them withe big decisions all season. When time and again, as was the case last night, it is the exact opposite and Man U getting countless undeserved decisions going their way, as this key Anthony Gordon moment proves.

Erik ten Hag after Manchester United 3 Newcastle United 2:

“It was nervous [at the end] but I thought it was a foul [on Jonny Evans, when Lewis Hall scored] but that sums up our season.

We had it so often, leading but give it away, and we had some really poor decisions go against us.

“Today, I was pleased we got it over the line.

“So we had, in the last month, many games where we couldn’t put it over the line but it was also to do with our back four.

“We didn’t have options there and also not to sub on but, today, it was very good that we can bring on Martinez, an experienced player. He’s a warrior who helps the team in such difficult moments.

“Every win is important.

“This was very important, no question.

“We want to give the fans also something and I’m very pleased with that.

“I was pleased with the performance of the team, we matched Newcastle’s physicality and also played some good football.

“Of course, we are in that together and the fans remained always with us.

“They stuck with us. We are very pleased they did this. We wanted to pay them back.

“They were fantastic, great goals but it was also a team effort, how we made the goals.”
