Barcelona are in the market for a new star striker, as they prepare for the inevitable departure of Robert Lewandowski within the next two years.
Among the players announced in recent months, the dream player – especially for president Joan Laporta – is Erling Haaland of Manchester City.
Haaland is a player currently out of reach, but if Barcelona can significantly improve their finances between now and Lewandowski’s departure, there is a chance he will be wanted. However, the planned pursuit will be made more difficult.
Haaland away from Barça
According to reports in England (via Sport), Haaland is close to finalizing a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Man City, which would also increase his salary. In addition, his release clause will be increased from 150 to 200 million euros.
There’s still a (very) slim chance for Barcelona to get their hands on Haaland at some point, but it’s going to get increasingly difficult. Therefore, other options may need to be considered more seriously.
