Despite being linked with the experienced German since the closing stages of last season, Bayern Munich have today decided against signing Jonathan Tah.

As it stands, Tah will be staying with reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen – much to Xabi Alonso’s delight, as he played an integral role in the side overseeing an unprecedented invincible campaign in 2023/2024.

It remains to be seen where Bayern will now turn in their centre-half search. Their efforts to sign the 28-year-old accelerated after new signing Hiroki Ito sustained a metatarsal fracture during a pre-season clash.

Coincidentally, Manchester United’s latest defensive recruit, Leny Yoro, also suffered the same injury setback, forcing the Reds to up the ante in their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt.

Bayern may change De Ligt transfer stance

Now that Vincent Kompany has presumably been made aware that Tah won’t be joining his ranks before deadline day, he may opt to keep De Ligt in the squad for the forthcoming season. After all, he is contracted to the German outfit until 2027, so they’ve no reason to push for a sale.

Journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft took to X (Twitter) tonight to echo the sentiment, writing that it will be ‘interesting to see what impact this will have on De Ligt to Manchester United’.
