Surprise guest on Didier Deschamps’ list for the Euro, N’Golo Kanté could very quickly find a starting place.

This is the big surprise of the list of 25 players revealed by Didier Deschamps. Not seen in the French team for two years and exiled in Saudi Arabia since last summer, N’Golo Kanté is however preparing to return to the Blues. A choice carefully considered by the French staff according to Guy Stephan, the assistant coach.

“He’s a player we’ve been observing for months. I think he has regained all of his abilities, his ability to recover the ball, to project himself, his volume of play, his ability to always be on the move”, he confided to the Téléfoot microphone. However, many observers remain circumspect. “We can ask ourselves questions. I think that Didier Deschamps has guarantees on an athletic level. This Saudi Arabian championship is a championship for retirees for me. It doesn’t pull you up sportingly”launched Bixente Lizarazu.

N’Golo Kanté more than a joker

But while uncertainty weighs around Aurelien Tchouameni, injured in the foot, N’Golo Kanté could once again create a surprise. This is Rio Mavuba’s feeling. “I don’t see him having a major role at first. But if, during the preparation matches and in training, he manages to show very good things, I think that could be a great contribution”he explained.

Some are even convinced that N’Golo Kanté still has the level to play leading roles. “N’Golo is still above the rest in his ability to put in the effort. And he projects himself even more forward than during his last years in Europe”launched Christophe Lollichon, former member of the Chelsea technical staff, adding: “It’s 43 degrees at the start of the season, I’ve sometimes seen players with their hands on their knees in the 35th minute! »
