Clement: Mixed feelings - but proud

Rangers manager Philippe Clement on TNT Sport: "I've got mixed feelings, and the same in the dressing room. I'm gutted we lost, you play games to win.

"The team wanted to do something special, and they were really close to doing it. In those circumstances, with the injuries and players we missed.

"But I'm proud of the team performance, the mentality, how they stuck to the plan and tactics, and how they were brave on the ball and created chances.

"There are a lot of positives, but we are disappointed because we wanted to win - or at least a draw here."

'We regrouped from the last game'

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim speaking to TNT Sports: "We did well. We played better with the ball. I think we started well and then we lost control of the game because of some bad decisions but the lads did well. We are so near the second goal with so many chances, it's so hard but they recover.

"We are not playing our best but we regrouped from the last game. I know the opponent is different. It wasn't as fast. You can see the connections. I think we need to be more clinical in the right moments because that can help us a lot.

On finishing in top eight: "It's two weeks free to prepare for the Premier League so it's really important to stay in this position.

On De Ligt's injury: "He felt something in his leg. Also, Leny [Yoro] so we cannot risk anything. We have to win but we have to protect the players and show that everyone matters in this moment.

"We started the game scoring first, that is important. You can see that in Europe, it is quite different. We scored the first one and in the Premier League, it is not a foul.

On transfer window: "I don't know what will happen, let's focus on the games and focus on the team. Anything can happen."

'At this club, you need to win every game'

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes speaking to TNT Sports: "I know how much it means for the fans to win games. You really want to win games. We are a little bit frustrated because we started the year well here with two great games against Liverpool and Arsenal then Southampton we had good resilience but didn't play good football. We had the game with Brighton which didn't go for us.

"We want to get through the Europa League and get to the final in Bilbao. We want to get top eight so we don't have to play two more games.

"It's not about the character. We have to prove that in the 90 minutes, we can't bring that out when we concede a goal. We concede a late goal and we have to score a late goal.

"At this club, you need to win every game. You know that if you don't win games here, it will be difficult. I hope our fans never get used to losing games. I hope they believe in this team to win games."

Manchester United 2-1 Rangers FULL-TIME

THAT'S IT - Bruno Fernandes has won it for the Red Devils!

Ruben Amorim celebrates and Harry Maguire is the most relieved man in the stadium.

A game that was goalless at half-time was ignited into life by a bizarre Jack Butland own-goal five minutes after the break.

Cyriel Dessers thought he'd snatched a share of the points from the bench with a stunning individual effort just before added time.

However, Fernandes stepped up when Amorim and United needed him most with a clutch finish.

GOAL!! Manchester United 2-1 Rangers Bruno Fernandes

THE CAPTAIN HAS WON IT AT THE DEATH!!

What a crazy end to this game - Old Trafford was silent and Fernandes has just taken the roof off the place.

Lisandro Martinez is afforded the time and space to deliver a deep cross from the left to the back post.

Fernandes ghosts in around the back of an unaware Jefté and drills a low guided half-volley back across Jack Butland.

GOAL!! Manchester United 1-1 Rangers Cyriel Dessers

THE SUBSTITUTE HAS EQUALISED IN THE LAST MINUTE!

It's a simple long ball from captain James Tavernier and Dessers holds off the challenge of Harry Maguire.

His first touch is beyond sensational - it's Dennis Bergkamp-esque to spin on a six-pence and face the goal.

He then unleashes a thunderous low drive into the box corner!

TalkSPORT'S Ally McCoist told TNT Sport: "Diabolical defending, but what about the two touches?"

Manchester United 1-0 Rangers POST

Alejandro Garnacho smacks the woodwork!

So close to two as Amad Diallo breezes past Jefté towards the byline before cutting the ball back to the penalty spot.

Garnacho is unmarked with a near-empty net to aim at but the Argentine takes a poor first touch to set himself.

He then tries to bend an effort inside the near post but only succeeds in striking the outside of the frame of the goal.

JACK BUTLAND OWN-GOAL

Manchester United 1-0 Rangers

JACK BUTLAND HAS PUNCHED THE BALL INTO HIS OWN NET!

What a horrendous howler from the returning Rangers goalkeeper and Man United have the lead in bizarre circumstances.

It comes from a simple corner and the England shot-stopper somehow punches the ball back over his own head into the net.

Butland - a boyhood United fan - will not be able to sleep tonight watching that back. A truly horrible mistake!

TalkSPORT's Ally McCoist told TNT Sport: "Where do I start with that? It's just a howler.

"No excuse for that. That's a really poor error. Jack Butland has got to do better."

Changes at the break for both sides, as would-be goalscorer Mattijs De Ligt has been replaced by former United captain Harry Maguire/

Bailey Rice, just 18 years old, comes on for Connor Barron while Ross McCausland replaces Leon Balogun for the visitors.

Rashford's message of support

Marcus Rashford has not been named in the Manchester United squad tonight but he is at Old Trafford.

The England star wrote a message of support to his team-mates from the stands on Instagram.

"Come on the boys", Rashford captioned his picture.

Manchester United 0-0 Rangers HALF-TIME

The whistle goes and somehow this match is still goalless as both sides enter the break.

Matthijs de Ligt thought he'd given the Red Devils the lead but his headed goal was controversially ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

Returning Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has also made several fine stops to deny Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.

However, the visitors have represented a threat on the counter-attack, with Nicolas Raskin squandering their biggest opportunity.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT HAS BEEN DENIED!

The Dutchman heads home from a United corner at the near post but the referee instantly blows for a foul.

Leny Yoro is the guilty party - having been adjudged to have pushed Robin Pröpper in the back.

It's a very soft one but once the free-kick had been awarded VAR were always unlikely to intervene and overturn.

WHAT A CHANCE FOR RANGERS!

Toby Collyer is robbed in midfield and suddenly Hamza Igamane releases Nicolas Raskin inside the box.

However, the latter's finish is a poor one after he gets it stuck under his feet and Altay Bayindir smothers it away.

TalkSPORT's Ally McCoist told TNT: "Raskin with a brilliant run. Toby Collyer gets caught in possession.

"Raskin has got to be finishing that."

Minutes later, Gers captain James Tavernier floats a cross in for Ridvan Yilmaz to meet on the volley but he hits it straight at the keeper.

McCoist added: "Yilmaz has got to smash it back across goal. It's a safe finish.

"A proper striker would have smashed that across the left-hand-side."

'It's a significant victory'

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to TNT Sports: "I thought the senior boys today all really stood up. You need your leaders to stand up and they did tonight.

"I told them to enjoy it. Winning away in Europe, it's a significant victory for us and gives us a good foothold to get into those top eight spots which will give us a week off. They enjoyed tonight, we'll recover and get ready for Sunday.

"It's a great position to be in, we want to finish top eight because it gives us an extra week of rest and we'll probably need it around that time."

Manchester United 0-0 Rangers

WE ARE UNDERWAY!

Man United are unbeaten in all four of their prior meetings with Rangers, keeping a clean sheet in all four matches (W3 D1).

Rangers have won just one of their eight away games against English sides in all European competition (D2 L5), beating Leeds United 2-1 in qualifying for the 1992-93 UEFA Champions League.

Rúben Amorim has won his first two UEFA Europa League games as Manchester United manager.

Only two Red Devils managers have won their first three major European games with the club – Sir Matt Busby in 1956 and Sir Alex Ferguson in 1990.

Hoffenheim 2-3 Tottenham FULL-TIME

SPURS HOLD ON FOR A PRICELESS WIN!

It's a first Europa League win for Angle Postecoglou's men since October and snaps their sliding Premier League form.

Despite a hefty absentee list, a double from Heung-min Son and a James Maddison goal is enough for all three points.

Poor defending once again meant Tottenham were forced to hold on late but the club survive a nervy finish to get back on track.

Son has scored 10+ goals across all competitions in each of the last nine seasons, becoming the only Premier League player to have done so in each campaign since 2016/17.

His brace tonight was his 28th and 29th goals in major European competition, meaning he has now scored more than double the next-highest Asian scorer - Daichi Kamada with 14.

Son scored his 25th and 26th goals in major European competition for Tottenham tonight, becoming only the second Spurs player to score 25+ goals for the club in Europe.

Only Harry Kane has scored more goals in major European competition than him for the club (36).

GOAL! Hoffenheim 2-3 Tottenham David Mokwa

IT COULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN COULD IT?

Two minutes until the end of normal time, substitute Mokwa has headed home a deep cross to the back post to halve the deficit.

Captain Heung-min Son had already been withdrawn, and now deputy skipper James Maddison is also hooked.

Five minutes remaining for the visitors to hold on!

Amorim: We need to escape play-offs

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim to TNT Sports: "It's always good to get back on the pitch.

"My job is this one, to try to help my players to win games.

"The players have been fine. They know me, it's easier for them to recognise what I'm saying.

"I can't control what other people think and say - it was a little bit my fault to create all that history, but it's in the past. Let's focus on the next game, and that is today.

"We need to win to have time to train, to escape the play-off - and having that feeling of winning, especially at home."

GOAL! Hoffenheim 1-3 Tottenham Heung-min Son

GAME. SET. AND MATCH!

How Spurs needed that from their captain - the visitors have barely offered anything in the second-half but now have daylight again.

It's a mistake from Hoffenheim in the middle of the park, with Rodrigo Bentancur winning possession well.

The returning midfielder finds substitute Mikey Moore who drives forward from a central area before releasing Son on the left.

The South Korean superstar then scores in typical fashion by dropping the shoulder before drilling into the far corner.

GOAL! Hoffenheim 1-2 Tottenham Anton Stach

THE HOME SIDE DO HAVE A GOAL BACK!

Just seconds after Hoffenheim thought they'd had a penalty, Stach turns home from close range to spark the match into life.

It all stems from a poor Heung-min Son cross that is cleared and Spurs get punished committing bodies up the pitch.

A simple cross from the left is then converted by a sliding Stach - whose deft touch takes the ball past Brandon Austin.

NO PENALTY! Hoffenheim 0-2 Tottenham

SPURS CONCEDE A SPOT-KICK BUT IT'S OVERTURNED!

Brandon Austin thought he'd harshly been penalised for a challenge on Max Moerstedt on his European debut.

Kevin Akpoguma's deflected cross almost finds his teammate inside the six-yard box, with Austin getting a hand to it before clattering into the striker.

The Spurs keeper is aghast to see a penalty awarded, with him also receiving a yellow card.

However, the referee is eventually sent to the monitor by VAR where he reverses his decision and Austin's caution is chalked off.

Glenn Hoddle told TNT Sports: “As the ball springs over the top Brandon Austin has the right to dive, there's contact but I'm not sure what the goalkeeper is supposed to do.

“I think it's a 50-50.”

Man United vs Rangers: Team news

Alejandro Garnacho is a surprise starter for the Red Devils tonight!

TalkSPORT brought you the news earlier that Chelsea are ready to open talks over a potential move for Garnacho.

United have been in discussions with Napoli over academy product Garnacho but the Italian side’s offers fell below United’s asking price, which is understood to be between £60-£70million.

Man United XI: Bayindir, De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro, Amad, Collyer, Eriksen, Dalot, Fernandes, Garnacho, Zirkzee.

Subs: Heaton, Onana, Maguire, Malacia, Mazraoui, Casemiro, Mainoo, Ugarte, Antony, Hojlund.

Rangers XI: Butland, Tavernier, Propper, Balogun, Jefte, Barron, Raskin, Ridvan, Bajrami, Cerny, Igamane.

Subs: Kelly, Munn, Dessers, Lawrence, Dowell, King, McCausland, Rice, Lovelace, Curtis, Nsio, Hutton.

Hoffenheim 0-2 Tottenham HALF-TIME

Spurs are in dreamland at the break as goals from James Maddison and Heung-min Son have them in full control.

Former England and Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle told TNT Sports: "At the top of the pitch, Tottenham always have the ability to open teams up, but you always worry about how they defend."

GOAL! Hoffenheim 0-2 Tottenham Heung-min Son

THE CAPTAIN DOUBLES THE LEAD!

The home side had just begun to start growing into the game and had called for a penalty against Rodrigo Bentancur for handball.

However, their appeals were waved away by the on-field officials and VAR and within a flash they went from potentially 1-1 to two down.

James Maddison ghosts in between two Hoffenheim defenders on the halfway line before playing a deft reverse pass for Son.

The latter runs through on goal before taking a shot which takes a deflection off a recovering defender on the slide.

That only succeeds in helping Son's shoot loop up and over Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.

GOAL! Hoffenheim 0-1 James Maddison

JUST THE START SPURS NEEDED!

The home side attempt to go long in behind the visitors highline but Ben Davies does well to stretch and cut it out.

His header is cycled out wide to Pedro Porro on the right who cuts Hoffenheim open with an inch-perfect lofted pass of his own.

His through ball releases Maddison, who takes a touch out of his feet before planting a powerful effort into the roof of the net.
