In the round of 16 of the Europa League, OM will face Villarreal next month.

OM know their opponent in the round of 16 of the Europa League. It will be the Yellow Submarine of Villarreal. A tempting opposition which will allow the Phocaeans to reunite with their former coach Marcelino.

Villarreal on the way to OM

The Iberian technician was in charge of Marseille at the start of the season. He only stayed two months before throwing in the towel, notably following a stormy meeting between supporters and management. There is no doubt that his return to the Vélodrome, scheduled for March 7, will be very lively and a special welcome could be reserved for him.

After dominating Shakhtar Donetsk in the play-offs, OM do not want to stop there. Under the leadership of their new coach Jean-Louis Gasset, the Olympians would like to go all the way. Unhappy finalists in 1999, 2004 and 2018, they would like to win the trophy this time.

Note that Villarreal has already faced a French team this season. The 13the of La Liga had dominated Stade Rennais during the 6e day, thus seizing first place in the group at the last minute.

Other tempting posters are on the program for these 8th rounds of the Europa League. A Benfica – Rangers will be worth the detour, like the opposition between Sparta Prague and Liverpool. The Qarabag, little thumb of the event, will travel to Leverkusen.

The 8th grade program

Sparta Prague – Liverpool

Marseille – Villarreal

AS Roma – Brighton & Hove Albion

Benfica – Rangers

Freiburg – West Ham

Sporting CP – Atalanta

Milan – Slavia Prague

Leverkusen – Qarabag
