David De Gea has not featured from a club since he left Manchester United as a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Taking a season’s career break, the Spanish shot-stopper, who made 545 appearances for the Red Devils, remains on the lookout for a new club.

And according to a recent report from journalist Alfredo Pedulla, although the 33-year-old has a ‘couple of proposals’, it is Serie A side Fiorentina who are showing the most interest.

Expected to continue talks to sign the 2012-13 Premier League winner next week, Raffaele Palladino’s side are hoping to complete what would be an ambitious deal in time for the new 2024-25 Serie A season, which begins on Saturday 17 August.

Fiorentina working on deal to sign David De Gea

Fiorentina’s currently have four first-team goalkeepers registered — Tommaso Vannucchi, Tommaso Martinelli, Oliver Christensen and number one Pietro Terracciano. De Gea would certainly represent an upgrade though. The Spaniard has a wealth of experience, both at domestic and international levels.

David De Gea is a potential target for Fiorentina.

Capped 45 times for Spain, De Gea, who was born in Madrid in 1990, has lifted seven major trophies, including the 2010 and 2017 Europa League. His last contract at Manchester United saw him earn a reported £375,000-per week — a figure he will have to compromise on though due to Fiorentina’s weaker financial position.

Pedulla’s latest report claims Fiorentina have more talks with De Gea’s representatives scheduled for Monday with the goalkeeper ‘greatly appreciating the possibility of playing in Serie A’.

One to watch.
