Eva Longoria revealed she no longer calls Los Angeles — or the United States — her home, now splitting her time largely between Spain and Mexico. Especially in the wake of Donald Trump‘s election win against Kamala Harris, the actress said she is no longer eager to pass her days in a “dystopian” country.

“I’m privileged,” the Only Murders in the Building star told Marie Claire in a new cover story. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

The politically involved multi-hyphenate has long been away from LA, though the pandemic is what clinched the deal, she said.

“I had my whole adult life here,” the Flamin’ Hot helmer explained. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”

Her husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old son Santiago have also relocated alongside the Desperate Housewives actress.

Elsewhere in the feature, the Mexican American producer — who campaigned heavily for Harris and VP pick Tim Walz, as well as organized key voting demographic blocs like Latinos and women — said she was not as surprised at Trump’s second win, saying, “The shocking part is not that he won. It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”

She added, “I would like to think our fight continues … if he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place.”
