Evan Rachel Wood has used a Channel 4 documentary series to reveal details about her experience of feeling “violated” and “essentially raped” by Marilyn Manson during the shooting of one of his music videos.
Channel 4’s Marilyn Manson: Unmasked ep 1 aired to 350,000 viewers last night and featured claims from both Wood, who has previously accused Manson of abuse, and the response from the singer’s team.
“I felt so fucking violated. But I didn’t call it rape for like many many years,” the Westworld star says in ep 2, which is available on Channel 4’s streaming service, and is produced by Lightbox and sold by Fifth Season.
Wood spoke in depth about her experience working on the 2007 music video for Manson’s hit ‘Heart-Shaped Glasses’.
“The way it was pitched to me was that there was going to be a sex scene but that it was going to be shot where the camera is sort of rolling and moving and so whatever you see would sort of be a blur,” said Wood of the video, which Manson wanted her to star in and had positioned as “sort of like Lolita.”
Wood alleges when the camera started rolling “everything just escalated so fast and I felt like I was in a dream state.” “First of all, he just literally started devouring my face. It was just so aggressive, and he just started pulling the clothes off,” she added.
From there “it just didn’t stop” she alleged, ending with her “just kind of like sitting on the bed naked, just crying.”
Responding on his behalf, Manson’s lawyer Howard King said: “It’s demonstrably false that Brian [Warner – Manson’s real name] raped Evan Rachel Wood while filming a music video. This was filmed in a studio, there were more than 10 people within three feet of the bed. Brian had clothes on, although I suppose that wouldn’t prevent this but none of those people have come forward and said that they witnessed this act, it’s completely fabricated and there’s not a witness who will support it.”
Manson most recently pulled the plug on his long-running defamation lawsuit against Wood, paying her around $330,000 in legal fees. The pair have been doing battle in the courts for years. Wood had previously said she had been abused and subsequently named her ex-boyfriend Manson as the alleged abuser in 2021, who then responded: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners.” Other women subsequently came forward with more allegations against Manson.
Last night’s doc is a three-parter and all eps are available on Channel 4’s streaming service. The next two will roll out on linear later this month.
