Everton v Totteham preview
Tottenham came from behind to earn their first win in three matches on Wednseday night in a London derby against Brentford, which ended is a 3-2 win and took them back into the Premier League's top four for the first time in 2024.
Ange Postecoglou's side started the week in fifth place, three points shy of the Champions League qualification positions but capitalised on Aston Villa's home defeat to Newcastle, leaving the north London side ahead of Villa on goals scored.
Spurs now make the trip to the north-west for Saturday's opening Premier League fixture just three points behind second placed Manchester City, albeit having played a game more, and will also go level on points with local rivals Arsenal with a victory.
Tottenham's away form has been slightly scratchy of late though, having won only one of their last five matches on the road, but having been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions, the club can now focus fully on the league and a top four finish.
The midweek round of fixtures wasn't so kind to Everton as it was to Tottenham, with the Toffees dropping into the relegation zone following their 0-0 at Fulham, with Luton pulling off a surprise 4-0 win over Brighton to overtake them.
Sean Dyche's side are in the midst of a tough patch of form, winning only one of their last nine matches in all competitions, and have managed to score just two goals in their last six games.
The Toffees are now a point from safety behind Luton, who have also played a game fewer, though do have an inferior goal difference to the Merseyside club, so should they better the result of the Hatters in their game at Newcastle, Everton will climb back out of the drop zone.
Everton's home form has been an issue all season, which contrasts the previous two seasons in which their performances at Goodison Park were so crucial in the club staying in the Premier League.
This time around, only Burnley and Sheffield United have a worse record at their home stadium than the Toffees so far.
Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six matches against Everton, however they haven't won at Goodison Park on any of their last five visits.
