Ruud van Nistelrooy might be saying farewell to Manchester United today, but not without sending a rallying call for incoming head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Premier League meeting with Leicester City will be Van Nistelrooy’s final game in charge as interim boss. He is waiting on a decision to be made over whether he will remain at the club in a coaching capacity under Amorim, who starts work at Carrington training complex tomorrow.

It may be Van Nistelrooy’s final game as caretaker boss, but Amorim will also take charge of his last match as Sporting CP manager at 6.46, away at Braga in the north of Portugal.

A start date of 11 November at United means Amorim will have little time to say his final goodbyes. Sporting face a 225-mile trek back to Lisbon after tonight’s game which will make for a late return.

Speaking ahead of the game against Leicester City, Van Nistelrooy voiced his support for Amorim as new head coach. He called on everyone who loves United to get behind him from the very start.

Van Nistelrooy told MUTV: “From tomorrow, I will be getting behind our new head coach, Ruben Amorim, and I urge everyone who loves the club to do the same. I have worked with this squad every day since the summer and I can tell you that there is huge potential in these players, from the experienced pros to the lads coming up through the Academy. The coaches, club staff and supporters all have a role in helping those players become the best they can be.”

The match will not be shown on TV in the UK because of our Europa League contest with PAOK taking place on Thursday night.
