EXCLUSIVE: Evette Vargas and producing partner Ricardo Reyes on Thursday announced the launch of Indigo Reign Films, a new full-service production company based out of Los Angeles.

Indigo Reign will focus on elevated projects with social impact and multicultural representation, producing stories in the U.S., Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. The company will be active across film, television, commercials, podcasts, interactive, gaming, and music videos. Vargas and Reyes will serve as co-CEOs, with Emmy-winning cinematographer Jimmy A. Velarde, composer-producer The Angel and line producer Noah A. Waters III also on the team.

“Having met at UCLA grad school, Ricardo and I are thrilled to realize our dream of founding Indigo Reign Films. We’re building a new pipeline to develop, produce, market, and distribute stories – both our own and client projects,” Vargas told Deadline.

Reyes added that what sets the company part is the duo’s process. He said that he and Vargas are “world-builders focused on creating impactful universes from the ground up that can be told across multiple mediums and platforms.”

Indigo Reign’s initial slate includes action-drama The Mara, a true story of tenacity, friendship, and triumph of the human spirit, co-produced in South Africa. The story centers on a young Maasai warrior risking everything to defend his treasured niece’s future from an influential and vindictive elder. Also based on a true story is Rise and Fall of an Empire, the company’s white-collar crime feature set in a cutthroat financial world of big deals, greed, and betrayal.

Additionally in the works is musical drama Beats of Fire, an epic love story with a hip-hop pulse, centered on a young couple who fall in love as tensions between their respective communities escalate. Other projects include supernatural drama series Confessions, exploring sin and atonement, which is based on the award-winning proof-of-concept short created by Vargas and has Tim Kring (Heroes) and Michael Narducci (Superman & Lois) aboard as EPs. The interactive animated series is currently in production with Spanish media and technology company, Serialify. Finally, there’s half-hour comedy Daddy Issues, about a teenage slacker who has never met his father. After discovering his girlfriend’s pregnant, he looks to sketchy men from his promiscuous mother’s past to learn how to be a good dad and a responsible man.

Previously, Vargas has produced digital content for Amazon, Turner, MTV, Bravo, DirectTV and Vivendi, along with interactive media for the Fast & Furious franchise, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Madonna, Wu-Tang Clan, Activision, and Electronic Arts, among others. She also exec produced, wrote and directed digital series Dark Prophet starring Henry Rollins, which was in contention for two Emmys. Previously, she worked as a Television Development Executive at Hidden Empire Film Group and as the Showrunner of a narrative video game and franchise on the scale of The Last of Us at Netease.

Boasting over 15 years of experience writing original screenplays, half-hour comedies, Reyes wrote, directed and produced short film The Practice Kill. Additional producer credits include Dark Prophet and Confessions. Prior to his work as a filmmaker, he sourced and provided high-end real estate and commercial properties to FilmLA.
