UPDATE: Marie Donoghue is the new Chief Business & Growth Officer at gaming company DraftKings.
In her new role, Donoghue will work closely with existing teams to uncover new, sustainable growth opportunities and bolster product and customer experience. She will also be charged with spearheading various internal processes.
“I am thrilled to be joining DraftKings during this exciting phase and have long admired the organization’s steady rise as an industry innovator,” said Donoghue. “This is a special opportunity to expand on its industry-leading position and propel the company to new heights.”
DraftKings and rival FanDuel are the U.S. leaders in sports betting. DraftKings is also reportedly in advanced talks on a marketing agreement with Barstool Sports.
EARLIER: Marie Donoghue, the VP of global sports video at Amazon’s Prime Video, is leaving the company.
Donoghue informed her staff on Thursday with a farewell email. Prime Video just concluded its second season as the home of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football package.
Donoghue reported to Jay Marine, who heads the company’s sports division. Amazon confirmed Donoghue’s exit to the media, but provided no further comment.
Donoghue joined Amazon in 2018 as VP of global sports video for Prime Video and spearheaded the tech outlet’s push into live coverage. In 2022, Prime Video began an exclusive 11-year deal for Thursday Night Football, which has proven to be a potent addition to the lineup. This year, with viewers more accustomed to finding the games only in streaming, viewership surged 24% higher than the previous year.
In addition to the NFL, Prime Video has also streamed Major League Baseball, the WNBA and other sports in various global markets. The growth of sports helped spur a 26% year-over-year gain in advertising across all of Amazon in the third quarter, at $12.06 billion. Amazon also took a stake in the YES Network, the regional sports network controlled by the New York Yankees.
Prior to joining Amazon, Donoghue worked for ESPN for 19 years, holding a range of business affairs and content posts.
