Former England shot-stopper David Seaman reckons Andre Onana is finding his feet at Manchester United after a problematic start to life at Old Trafford.

The Cameroonian has found himself on the receiving end of heavy criticism throughout the term due to the catalogue of costly mistakes that he’s overseen since making the £47 million switch from Inter Milan.

Portions of the fanbase rue Onana’s Champions League performances in particular, believing that he was to blame for the side exiting the competition at the group stage following numerous woeful showings.

54 goals have found their way past the 27-year-old in all of his outings thus far, 15 of which came in Europe alone and 36 in the Premier League.

However, a statistic displayed on Monday Night Football last night detailed the number of games where a club faced over 16 shots in the league; the Reds ranked joint-first alongside relegation candidates Sheffield United and Luton Town on 14 matches, meaning the backline simply aren’t doing their jobs well enough either.

Seaman lauds Onana’s shot-stopping

Analysing Onana’s transition to English football on Seaman Says, the goalkeeper declared: “He’s making some saves with proper technique, which is what I’m looking at. I think he’s stopped trying to make saves look good.

“Because when he first went in, he was making some really strange saves – like what I call camera saves. Because he’s gone in, he wants people to see how good he is. And he was trying to make it look better and it was flipping around and he was causing all sorts of trouble.

“He’s settled down a lot now. We’re seeing how good he is with his feet. Now I compare him with [David] Raya. Raya at the back now with his feet is brilliant. His confidence is there.

”And it’s like with Onana, his confidence is coming back. He’s still got a lot to prove. There’s no doubt about that. We’ll see the rest of this season and going into next season.”
