Former Liverpool CEO Peter Moore believes the club are preparing for a ‘hard reset’ as Jurgen Klopp enters his final five months as manager.

Shockwaves continue to reverberate around Anfield following Klopp’s shock decision to step down as manager at the end of the season.

Klopp will be joined at the exit door by assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz while sporting director Jörg Schmadtke is set to leave his position at the culmination of the January transfer window.

Moores, who served at the clubs CEO between 2017 and 2020 has warned that there could be a bumpy road ahead as the club begin their search for Klopp’s successor.

“What we’re facing is a hard reset at the club,” Moore told talkSPORT. “It’s not just Jurgen, it's Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz – a sporting director needs to be hired as well.

“This is a hard reset for the football club and it’s got to be done in conjunction with all the criteria and layout.

“It’s not just ‘who’s our best manager.’ Who is somebody that our fans are going to accept and embrace?

“We Liverpudlians, when we look at our managers, we turn them into legends. They mean more to us than just winning and losing.

“This is not going to be an easy role to fill and I think the fans will have to be patient if it is to be Xabi Alonso, who obviously is at the top of most people’s list.”

Such has been Klopp’s impact during his nine-year reign at Anfield, comparisons have already been drawn with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United’s exit in 2013.

Since then, the Red Devils have been unable to get anywhere near the heights reached under Ferguson and while Liverpool may also encounter their own upcoming problems, Moore is not expecting a decline similar to United’s.

When pressed on whether Liverpool could suffer identical issues, Moore said: “No because of the underlying infrastructure. The Liverpool way is embedded in the way that we do things.

Jurgen Klopp gets emotional standing ovation as he walks out at Anfield for the first time since his announcement to leave the Liverpool at the end of the season

“We may have to accept that this time next year we’re not going to be competing on four fronts like we are right now.

“But this is a football club that is close to 140 years old and it has a set of values and a cultural bedding that has been there for decades.”
