Ex of RFK Jr.’s alleged fling Olivia Nuzzi confirms engagement is off amid sexting scandal

Politico journalist Ryan Lizza confirmed he and Olivia Nuzzi called off their engagement following claims she had an affair with former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“Because of my connection to this story through my ex-fiancée, my editors and I have agreed that I won’t be involved in any coverage of Kennedy in Playbook or elsewhere at POLITICO,” Lizza, 50, said in a statement published in Politico PM Friday afternoon.

Lizza and Nuzzi got engaged in September 2022, according to her Instagram page. They began dating no later than 2018.

Lizza, 31, was put on leave from her role as New York Magazine’s Washington correspondent on Thursday after she admitted that she “engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign.”

The magazine stated her actions were “a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures” and that there was a “thorough third-party review” being conducted.

Lizza shared a statement with CNN late Thursday evening confirming she engaged in an inappropriate relationship and emphasized her regret.

“Earlier this year, the nature of some communication between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal,” she said.

“The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict.”

“I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I’ve disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York.”

The acclaimed magazine writer did not mention RFK Jr. in her statement, but a source told The Post that they were “sexting around the new year.”

Furthermore, reporter Oliver Darcy claimed in his Status newsletter that Lizza and RFK Jr.’s alleged relationship began in December 2023 after she wrote a profile on him for New York Magazine.

A representative for RFK Jr. denied he entered a romantic relationship with Nuzzi in a statement to Status.

“Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece,” they noted.

RFK Jr., who recently endorsed Donald Trump for president, has been married to actress Cheryl Hines since 2014.

Page Six reached out to reps for RFK Jr. and Hines and did not immediately hear back.
