It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul “The Butcher” Vachon, as shared by Pat Laprade on social media. Vachon passed away on the night of February 29 at the age of 86. Laprade, who considered Vachon a friend, extended his sympathies to Vachon’s wife Dee and his family.
“Sad news. Paul “The Butcher” Vachon died last night at the age of 86 years old. Former AWA tag team champ, Grand Prix Wrestling promoter and WWE wrestler, he had a great career and became a friend of mine over the years. My sympathies to his wife Dee and his family.”
Paul “The Butcher” Vachon was a renowned figure in the world of professional wrestling, notably as a former AWA Tag Team Champion alongside his brother Maurice Vachon. Together, they enjoyed a decorated career, competing in various promotions such as Stampede Wrestling, Mid-South Sports, and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, among others. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Paul Vachon was inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010.
In addition to his accomplishments in the ring, Paul and Maurice played instrumental roles in the establishment of Grand Prix Wrestling in Quebec. While Paul briefly worked in WWF (now WWE), his impact on the wrestling industry extended far beyond his in-ring performances.
Throughout his life, Paul Vachon battled cancer, demonstrating his resilience and strength in the face of adversity.
