Although Arsenal won’t be able to complete any transfers before the January transfer window, unless an unexpected free transfer reveals itself, the Gunners are already looking ahead to the new year.

CaughtOffside sources have advanced that the North Londoners hold a serious interest in one exciting young player, but they do face competition from Premier League rivals, Liverpool, after the Reds embarked on a recent scouting mission.

Arsenal face competition to sign Hugo Larsson

Furthermore, Man City, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also believed to have been monitoring the progress of Eintracht Frankfurt’s young midfielder Hugo Larsson.

Larsson has a contract with the Bundesliga outfit until 2028, and importantly it’s understood that he doesn’t have a release clause.

What this means in practice is that Frankfurt could demand a fee somewhere in the region of €70m-€80m.

In any event, sources note that Frankfurt are hugely reluctant to let the Swedish player go, as they believe his potential could see him reach the very top of the game in due course.

At just 20 years of age, there’s plenty more to come from a player who doesn’t seem to play under any pressure whatsoever.

There is an ease about his play that has proved intoxicating to those interested parties, and the chance to harness that further and develop it is clearly something which all of the clubs that want to bid for his services are willing to do.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool scouts are understood to have watched Larsson in matches against Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, and have come away hugely impressed by what they’ve seen.

Sources say that there will be an attempt to hold talks with the Bundesliga club in January, but if there’s no movement on Eintracht’s part, there may be the option to pivot their attentions to  Larsson’s teammate, William Pacho.
