Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer is having a superb first season at Stamford Bridge and Fabrizio Romano has praised the work the Blues did to get him to the club last summer.
The talented 21-year-old didn’t necessarily look like the most exciting signing when he first joined Chelsea, having failed to get much of a look-in at former club Manchester City, but he’s now looking like one of the best buys of the season.
Transfer news expert Romano is a big fan of Palmer and praised Chelsea for their smart work in the market when they held secret talks to strike this deal.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Romano also played down recent reports that the England international could already be set for a new contract with CFC, with a pay rise to reward him for his efforts this season.
Palmer transfer was great business by Chelsea, says Romano
Cole Palmer in action for Chelsea“It was another fantastic performance by Cole Palmer yesterday as Chelsea beat Leicester City to progress to the FA Cup semi-finals. The 21-year-old has been an absolute revelation, contributing 26 goals and assists in total now, and I’m aware this has led to some rumours about a possible new contract and pay rise,” Romano said.
“However, he only signed his current contract eight months ago, so it’s early to discuss these kinds of things. I’m sure Chelsea will always make their best efforts to keep Palmer happy at the club, but there’s no issue at all. He’s been a fantastic signing – he was a top secret target for weeks and they did an excellent job to prise this top talent away from Manchester City.

“And next up for Palmer…a reunion with his former club City in the FA Cup semi-finals!”
Chelsea fans will be delighted with Palmer and his development this season is also exciting news for England ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.
