Although Chelsea are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, it appears that they’re likely to miss out on one of their targets.
It’s understood that the Blues are going in a different direction both in terms of their manager – Enzo Maresca will soon be unveiled – and their playing squad, where a younger dynamic is being sought.
Maresca may be wondering what he’s walking into, given that some of his squad will likely have either been sold already or be in the process of agreeing a deal with another club in order that Chelsea can stay on the right side of FFP.
Chelsea want Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori
CaughtOffside sources note that Bologna’s 22-year-old Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori, has long been of interest to the club, but he is also attracting interest from the likes of Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan, Juventus, Newcastle United and Tottenham.
Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna FC in action against the team he wants to join, Juventus, instead of Chelsea.Juventus, Inter and Chelsea have already met with Bologna and received information about the Italian player, whilst Newcastle and Tottenham have not yet made an offer despite showing interest.
That might be something to do with the player’s desire to stay in Serie A.

Sources suggest that Chelsea are willing to pay €30m for the Italian defender, but Calafiori has made it clear that his transfer priority is a move to Juventus.
It’s worth pointing out that former Bologna manager, Thiago Motta, is on the verge of moving to the Bianconeri too.
Bologna are said to have set a price tag of around €35m as 40% of any sale must go to FC Basel.
